Amazon Prime Air Drone Delivery Is Expanding: How to Check If Your Home Is Eligible

Amazon says Prime Air drone delivery is expanding to almost 500 US cities and towns, with eligibility checks available through Amazon’s Drone Delivery page.

Amazon’s Drone Delivery Footprint Is Set to Grow Fast

Amazon says Prime Air is expanding its drone delivery service to almost 500 US cities and towns by the end of this year. The company plans to make the service available to customers in Illinois, Georgia, Ohio, Idaho, and New York, while seven states, including Nebraska and Florida, already have access.

The expansion signals Amazon’s push to make drone delivery a more visible part of everyday shopping. For customers, the key question is not just whether the service is coming to their state, but whether their specific address is eligible.

What Prime Air Can Deliver — and How Fast

Amazon says items that weigh 5 pounds or less and can fit in a large shoe box can be delivered by drone. That category includes groceries, medications, and electronics, according to the article.

Amazon said in a press release that orders can arrive “in as fast as 30 minutes,” with most orders arriving around 60 minutes after checkout. The practical takeaway: Prime Air is aimed at smaller, faster-turnaround orders rather than bulky deliveries.

How to Check Whether Your House Qualifies

Amazon has not shared the full list of locations, but customers can check eligibility through the company’s website. From the Amazon homepage, open the drop-down menu and look for “Drone Delivery” under “Programs & Features.”

After selecting “Drone Delivery,” customers are taken to a page with a map of current and future locations. Clicking “Shop Now” in the drone delivery section will show a customer’s status.

What to Watch: Safety, Noise, and Competition

Amazon says it uses “multiple” independent systems to keep autonomous aircraft operating safely, including a “Detect-and-Avoid” system that monitors airspace and the environment. The company described the system as similar to a trained pilot scanning surrounding airspace and making real-time decisions in flight.

Drone delivery also brings neighborhood questions, especially around noise and privacy. Walmart has also expanded its own drone delivery service, bringing it to 100 more stores in places including Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Orlando, and Tampa.
