Atoms Dominates a Varied Week for Large Deals

Startup investors backed a broad mix of large U.S. rounds for the July 18-24 period, spanning physical AI, biotech, cybersecurity, AI infrastructure and fintech. The largest deal by far was Atoms’ $1.7 billion round, led by Andreessen Horowitz. Crunchbase News identifies Atoms as a Los Angeles-based physical AI startup founded by Uber founder Travis Kalanick.

AI, 3D Models, Batteries and Inference Drew Major Checks

Meshy AI ranked second with $400 million in Series B funding at a $1.5 billion valuation, with lead backers including Monolith Capital, IDG Capital and Matrix Partners China, per Crunchbase data. Sila followed with $300 million for battery technology, with plans to expand its silicon anode plant in Moses Lake, Washington. Etched also secured $300 million in Series C funding, led by Sequoia Capital, at a $10 billion pre-money valuation.

Fintech, Defense, Biotech, Healthcare Software and Security Filled Out the Top 10

Augustus raised $180 million in Series B funding led by Tiger Global, setting a $1 billion valuation for the San Francisco-based fintech startup. Cathedral reportedly raised $160 million with backing from Sequoia Capital and Andreessen Horowitz, while Crystalys Therapeutics closed an oversubscribed $130 million Series B round and Candid Health landed $120 million in Series D funding. Glow’s newest financing contributed $100 million of the $180 million it has raised to date, and Neo Security appeared in the list’s final spot, with the article’s ranking label showing $75 million while the text says it picked up $100 million.

Crunchbase News says the weekly feature tracks the largest announced rounds in the Crunchbase database raised by U.S.-based companies. This roundup covers the period from July 18 to July 24. The publication notes that most announced rounds are represented in the database, but some may appear later because of reporting delays near the end of the week.
