Business Insider reports Bombardier employs 3,500 direct workers in the US, with operations spanning headquarters, manufacturing, service, parts distribution, and mobile repair teams.
President Donald Trump threatened to block Bombardier from selling in the US unless the Canadian planemaker builds in America, according to Business Insider. Bombardier responded by pointing to an already sizable US presence: 3,500 direct employees across more than 20 states. The company also said it spends $2.5 billion a year across roughly 2,800 American suppliers in 47 states.
Bombardier’s US headquarters are in Wichita, Kansas, where work now focuses on defense, flight testing, and servicing after Learjet production ended in 2022. The company builds wings in Texas, makes flight control components in California, and runs a major parts distribution center in Chicago that has operated since 2005. It also maintains mobile truck response team centers in 13 states to help grounded aircraft with repairs, technical support, and parts.
Bombardier told Reuters it wants to hire another 500 people in the US, with some roles tied to a new service center expected to open in Indiana in November. That hiring plan matters because the dispute is not only about imports; it also touches existing American aerospace jobs, maintenance work, and supplier spending. For workers and local officials, the key question is whether trade pressure changes Bombardier’s US investment plans.
Some Republicans publicly defended Bombardier’s US workforce. Sen. Jerry Moran of Kansas said Wichita employs more than 1,000 Americans and said he contacted the president about Bombardier’s contributions to Kansas. Sen. Roger Marshall also said he would fight for the company’s Kansas workforce and had raised concerns with the White House.
The report highlights several states where Bombardier has direct operations, including Arizona, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Texas, and Indiana. Arizona has a Tucson service center and a Scottsdale mobile response truck unit, while California includes truck response, line maintenance, and a Moorpark component manufacturing site. Florida hosts a Miami service center and truck response units, and Illinois is home to Bombardier’s Chicago-area distribution operation.
