Demand for ‘Dune: Part Three’ tickets overwhelmed AMC’s website and app, prompting CEO Adam Aron to order urgent fixes to the company’s ticketing systems.

AMC CEO Adam Aron said high demand for “Dune: Part Three” temporarily slowed or “glitched” the company’s online ticketing system on Tuesday. He said ticketing traffic across AMC’s website and mobile app reached levels approximately three times higher than the “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” ticket launch.

Aron called the customer-facing issues “intolerable and inexcusable,” adding that AMC thought it was prepared for the launch but “wasn’t.” The incident highlights how blockbuster advance sales can strain even major theater chains’ digital platforms.

AMC Says Fixes Are Now an Urgent Priority

Aron said AMC instructed its IT team to “move at a whirlwind speed to take whatever steps are needed” so the company’s ticketing systems are ready “in all situations and in all quantities.” That response signals AMC is treating the launch as both a customer-service problem and a technical stress test.

For moviegoers, the practical takeaway is simple: high-demand premium-format drops may remain competitive, and timing matters. Fans trying for scarce screenings should expect heavy traffic during major ticket releases.

Premium Formats Drove the Rush

AMC had initially released a small batch of “Dune: Part Three” tickets in April, which quickly sold out. Tuesday’s sale was the second ticket drop for coveted IMAX 70mm screenings and other premium large formats.

Business Insider reported that some fans camped outside theaters, including at New York City’s AMC Lincoln Square 13, where a line began forming around midnight and stretched around the block. The theater is home to the largest IMAX in the country and shows films in 70mm, making it one of the most in-demand theater experiences of the summer.

Resale Pressure Is Part of the Ticket Frenzy

The scramble quickly moved beyond official sales channels. Business Insider reported that tickets landed on eBay almost immediately, including one Wednesday morning listing selling IMAX 70MM tickets for $600.

The article notes that ticket resellers remain major players across entertainment and events despite pushback from artists, studios, and the US government. Similar ticketing drama surrounded “The Odyssey”, the 2026 World Cup, and Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour.”
