
OpenAI and other well-funded AI startups are buying smaller companies to expand faster.
A weekly outline of Indian startup funding activity for Sep 28-Oct 3, led by Simple Energy, SiMa.ai, Bengaluru deals, healthtech activity, acquisitions, fund launches, and an ESOP buyback.

Indian startups raised $411.46 million across 24 deals during Sep 28-Oct 3. The total included five growth-stage deals, 13 early-stage deals, and six undisclosed rounds.
The week also recorded three key appointments, one fund launch, three mergers and acquisitions, and one ESOP buyback. Funding more than doubled from the previous week, when 17 startups collectively secured about $188.49 million.
Growth-stage startups raised $357 million across five deals. Electric two-wheeler maker Simple Energy led the week with a $182 million Series C round, followed by physical AI company SiMa.ai with $150 million.
Other growth-stage activity included Balwaan Krishi raising Rs 100 crore in Series B funding, Seeds Fincap securing over Rs 100 crore, and quick-commerce fulfillment startup Blitz raising Rs 28.7 crore in a pre-Series B round led by IvyCap Ventures.
Early-stage startups raised $54.36 million across 13 deals. Premium home interior materials startup Gravity led this group with $15 million in equity and debt funding, followed by edtech startup Arivihan with $10 million.
Arovia Consumer secured a Rs 100 crore capital commitment from Fireside Ventures, while Amaani and Bharat Housing Network raised $5 million each. Other funded startups included EDT, Bangalore Watch Company, Alive App, Vytalyou, FIG Living, Prodocv AI, Nudge, and others.
Bengaluru topped the city-wise funding chart with 13 startup deals, followed by Delhi-NCR and Mumbai with three deals each. Jaipur, Ahmedabad, and Hyderabad also recorded startup funding activity during the week.
Healthtech led sector activity with four deals, followed by AI and e-commerce with three deals each. By stage, seed rounds led with nine deals, followed by Series A with three, while Series B, Series C, pre-seed, and pre-Series A each recorded two deals.
Three acquisitions were recorded: ITC completed its acquisition of Yoga Bar parent Sproutlife Foods, OpenMetal acquired Economize, and Zigly Pet Care acquired Prolife Speciality Vet Clinic in Mumbai. The week also saw Bessemer Venture Partners, OTPless, and Chiratae Ventures announce key appointments.
WEH Ventures announced the first close of its third fund, which has a target corpus of Rs 250 crore and plans to back 20 to 25 early-stage Indian startups. Stable Money also completed its second ESOP buyback within four years of launch.
