TechCrunch’s review finds the Sennheiser Momentum 5 delivers balanced sound, strong battery life, improved ANC, and useful app controls at $399.99, with comfort and premium feel as the main compromises.

The Sennheiser Momentum 5 sits in the premium headphone market at $399.99, positioned against pricier options including the Sony WH-1000XM6 and Apple AirPods Max 2. TechCrunch’s review focuses on whether the headphones stand out in a crowded $300-$400 category, testing sound quality, noise cancellation, comfort, and battery life.

The review describes the Momentum 5’s sound as balanced, with natural vocals and bass that is strong without taking over. The headphones also reveal smaller details in music, such as background harmonies or guitar strings that cheaper headphones may miss. Dolby Atmos support adds a more spatial listening effect for music or movies.
Sennheiser doubled the microphone count to eight for this generation to improve active noise cancellation. The review says voices and nearby chatter are noticeably quieter, and notes Sennheiser’s claim that the Momentum 5 is up to three times more effective than the previous generation at blocking this type of noise. The headphones are not described as blocking everything, such as a plane engine, but they perform effectively without creating an uncomfortable pressurized feeling. Comfort is a trade-off: the Momentum 5 is described as less premium-feeling than Apple or Sony options and heavier than the Sony WH-1000XM6.

Battery life is the clearest strength: the Momentum 5 is rated for up to 57 hours, and TechCrunch says that figure held up in testing. The review frames that as roughly twice the Sony WH-1000XM6 and nearly three times the AirPods Max 2. A 10-minute charge provides up to seven hours of playback, while a full charge takes about two hours. The headphones also include a user-replaceable cell, meaning the battery can be swapped once it degrades instead of replacing the whole pair.
The Smart Control Plus companion app offers an 8-band EQ, Sennheiser presets, adjustable ANC levels, anti-wind mode, and a Sound Personalization feature that builds a profile based on a listening test. The review says the app is straightforward and gives users a useful amount of control. The overall verdict is that the Momentum 5 is a solid option at its price, delivering where it matters most: sound quality, battery life, and only minor downsides.
