Business Insider reports SpaceX has closed its $60 billion acquisition of Cursor, with the companies already collaborating on Grok models, compute access, and subscription integrations.
SpaceX closed its $60 billion acquisition of AI coding startup Cursor on Friday, according to Business Insider. The companies first partnered in April, giving Elon Musk’s space company the right to buy Cursor, and SpaceX committed to the acquisition in June. Musk had avoided sharing details on SpaceX’s August earnings call, saying he did not want to “jump the gun on regulators” before closing.
One major collaboration centered on Grok. Cursor jointly trained Grok 4.5 with SpaceX, using “trillions of tokens of Cursor data,” and the model was the first Cursor built that was not only for software engineering. Business Insider also reports Cursor helped train Grok 4.6, which SpaceX released on Wednesday.
Cursor also gained access to Colossus, SpaceX’s supercomputer powered by 200,000 Nvidia GPUs. Cursor said in April that using Colossus would let it “dramatically scale up” its models’ intelligence. The company described compute as a bottleneck for pushing its training efforts further.
SpaceX released its new AI agent, Grok Bot, on Tuesday. Business Insider reports it was available for SuperGrok Heavy users, while Cursor Ultra subscribers and Cursor Premium Teams also gained access. Recent Grok releases were also added as “first-party models” in Cursor’s system.
