The leadership change: Tanium returns to its roots

Tanium is bringing back cofounder Orion Hindawi as CEO, replacing Dan Streetman after less than four years in the role, according to Business Insider. David Hindawi, Orion Hindawi’s father and another Tanium cofounder, will return as chair, while Streetman is leaving the company’s board. The shift puts a longtime leader back at the helm as the cybersecurity company responds to rapid changes in enterprise software.

Why AI is central to the reset

The move comes as AI reshapes how businesses buy and use software, increasing competitive pressure on software-as-a-service companies. Tanium said it plans to expand its AI offerings and autonomous capabilities. Orion Hindawi said in a statement that AI has made Tanium’s work “more critical than ever” as threats grow more sophisticated and the pace of change intensifies.

Job cuts and executive churn add urgency

Business Insider reported that Tanium also made a small round of job cuts last week, affecting around 35 employees in research and development, citing sources familiar with the matter. A corporate fact sheet said Tanium had 1,900 employees as of 2025. The leadership shake-up follows several executive departures this year, according to Business Insider’s prior reporting.

What to watch next

Tanium has stayed private since its founding in 2007 and was last valued at $9 billion in 2020. The company hired CFO Marc Levine in 2021 to conduct a readiness assessment for an initial public offering, while Business Insider previously reported that employees and executives had left in recent years amid uncertainty over whether Tanium would go public. Readers should watch whether the leadership reset accelerates Tanium’s AI roadmap, clarifies its IPO path, or signals broader changes inside the company.
