Business Insider reported that Anthropic posted and then removed a sales role aimed at Meta, a major customer and AI rival, with a listed salary of up to $450,000.
Anthropic listed a job titled “Mega Account Executive, Meta,” according to Business Insider, before deleting the posting after the outlet asked the company about it. The role targeted Meta, which the article describes as both one of Anthropic’s largest customers and a rival in the AI race. Anthropic and Meta declined to comment.
The listing appeared at a sensitive point in the relationship between the two companies. Business Insider cited a recent New York Times report saying Meta still spends hundreds of millions of dollars a month as an Anthropic customer, while also trying to reduce reliance on Anthropic’s AI tools. The post suggests Anthropic may expect Meta to remain an important customer even as Meta develops more capable AI models of its own.
The job offered an annual salary range of $380,000 to $450,000 and did not mention Meta outside the title, Business Insider reported. The posting said the salesperson would “win new business and drive revenue within a book of strategic digital native accounts.” Its specificity stood out because other Anthropic account executive openings referenced broader regions or sectors.
Anthropic’s Claude Code has become popular across Silicon Valley, including at Meta, according to the report. Business Insider also cited the Times as saying one internal projection suggested Meta could spend $10 billion annually on Anthropic. The key takeaway: in enterprise AI, major customers can also be direct competitors, making account strategy, revenue concentration, and product dependence closely linked.
