Apple is reportedly developing an enterprise AI server for inference workloads, with two- and four-chip M8 Ultra configurations and a possible launch no earlier than 2029.

Apple is reportedly developing an enterprise server aimed at AI developers, businesses, and governments. The system is described as being built for AI inference, meaning it would run already-trained models rather than train them from scratch. According to the report, Apple is considering two versions using either two or four M8 Ultra chips.
Apple is considering Nvidia’s NVLink Fusion technology to connect the chips for faster communication inside data centers. NVLink was originally built for Nvidia’s own chips and has since been opened to third-party hardware. The project is not locked in: the report says it could still be scrapped or move forward without Nvidia’s technology.
A launch reportedly would not happen before 2029, keeping the project firmly in the long-term category. The effort may be supported by existing demand from AI labs, with OpenAI and Anthropic already buying Mac Minis and Mac Studios in bulk for AI workloads. The Decoder also reports that Apple’s Mac revenue jumped nearly 29 percent last quarter to $10.4 billion, a signal that Mac hardware remains relevant for compute-heavy use cases.
