ScrollEd is building an app that converts textbooks, PDFs, and other text files into a scrollable learning feed with AI-generated video, audio, text, and quizzes. The Palo Alto startup is pitching at TechCrunch Disrupt’s Startup Battlefield 200.

ScrollEd has built an app that turns text files, including PDFs and textbooks, into a vertical feed that resembles Instagram Reels or TikTok. As users scroll, material appears as AI-generated video, audio, text, or interactive quizzes. Swiping up surfaces a new topic, while swiping sideways lets users go deeper into the topic they are viewing.
The startup’s premise is that students may be more willing to engage with educational material if it matches the way they already consume media. Co-founder Utsav Gupta told TechCrunch that younger users are increasingly drawn to short-form vertical feeds, creating challenges for media that requires depth. ScrollEd’s answer is to make going deeper feel as easy as moving to the next video.
ScrollEd is a Palo Alto-based startup founded this year by student co-founders and spouses Utsav Gupta and Rebecca Neff. The company is targeting educational institutions, corporate training programs, and individuals who want a different kind of scrolling experience. Its model combines a free consumer feed, a paid ScrollEd Pro subscription, and annual institutional licenses that include reporting on engagement, lesson progress, and other data.
ScrollEd is pitching in the TechCrunch Disrupt Startup Battlefield 200 competition and plans to launch its consumer business at Disrupt. In the coming months, the company intends to focus on its consumer launch, lesson library, source-checking workflow, and institutional pilots. It is also building infrastructure that could eventually help educators assess individual learners and adapt to their needs.
