The headline rule: no Cybercab riders under 13

Tesla says children under 13 cannot ride in the Cybercab at this time, even with a parent. That is more restrictive than the Model Y SUVs Tesla is using as robotaxis, where minors between 8 and 17 are allowed to ride. Tesla also says all children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult in both vehicles. The Cybercab does not have standard LATCH anchors for child seats; child seats can be attached using the seat belt.

Crash response is spelled out in the fine print

If a Cybercab is in a crash, Tesla says the airbags inflate, doors unlock, hazard and interior lights turn on, the high-voltage battery is disabled, windows move to a vent position, and the vehicle brakes to a stop and parks. The infotainment system also starts a two-way connection with Tesla’s rider support team. The door-unlocking detail is notable because Tesla has faced criticism over electronic door latches. TechCrunch also notes Tesla agreed to recall 3 million cars in China after an investigation involving electronic door latches that could trap people after a crash.

Door access, brake-by-wire and windows are key rider details

The Cybercab uses electronic door latches so doors can open automatically at the start or end of a ride, and riders can also use a small exterior button. Inside, the manual release is placed on the armrest of each door, making it more obvious in an emergency. Tesla is also using a brake-by-wire system, replacing hydraulic brake control with electronic actuators. The Cybercab’s windows “cannot be fully opened at this time,” and Tesla did not explain why in the documentation described by TechCrunch.
