Waymo Opens Dallas Robotaxi Service to Everyone After Dropping Waitlist

Waymo has dropped the waitlist for its Dallas robotaxi service, opening access to residents and visitors. Anyone can now download the Waymo app and immediately hail one of its robotaxis in the city. The move fits Waymo’s broader push to scale self-driving technology across the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe.

Riders cannot yet hail a Waymo ride to Dallas Love Field Airport. Waymo said it is still testing its self-driving vehicles at the airport and expects to serve riders there “soon.” For now, riders should check available destinations in the Waymo app before planning an airport trip.

Waymo has had a Dallas presence since last year, when it began testing on public streets and announced plans to launch service there in 2026. The company partnered with Avis Budget Group to manage its fleet of all-electric autonomous Jaguar I-Pace vehicles. Avis handles depot operations, including charging and maintaining the vehicles.

Waymo opened the Dallas service to the public in February but initially limited access through a waitlist. The company said about 150,000 riders used the Waymo app during that period, and the Dallas opening follows a playbook it used in Phoenix, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Waymo previously paused service in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Atlanta over issues involving heavy rain and flooded roads; service has resumed, but the company may adjust or temporarily pause operations based on severe weather, flood warnings, and real-time conditions.
