How to Check If Your AI Platform Account Has Been Hacked

A concise guide to checking suspicious logins and signing out unknown sessions on ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity, based on TechCrunch’s account-security walkthrough.

AI Accounts Need the Same Security Hygiene as Any Online Service

Hackers can target popular AI platforms including ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity. The core defense is familiar: use unique passwords stored in a password manager, and turn on multi-factor authentication where it is available.

TechCrunch notes that ChatGPT and Perplexity offer MFA. Claude does not use passwords; instead, Anthropic’s chatbot sends a login link to the user’s email address.

To check ChatGPT, open it in a computer browser, click your username in the bottom-left corner, then go to Settings, Security and Login, and Active Sessions. From there, you can see where your account is logged in.

If a device looks unfamiliar, log out of that specific device or choose “Log out all.” To change your password, log out, select “Log in,” enter your email address, choose “Forgot password,” and use the six-digit code sent by email to create a new password.

For Claude, open the service in a computer browser, click your username in the bottom-left corner, choose Settings, then Account. The Active sessions area shows where your account is logged in.

If you do not recognize a session, hover over it, click the three vertical dots on the right, and select “Log out” or “Terminate.” You can also choose “Log out of all devices,” then log back in using the email link Claude sends to your address.

Perplexity: Sign Out Everywhere When You’re Unsure

Perplexity does not show where your account is logged in, according to the guide. If you are worried someone may have accessed your account, use the browser version, click your username in the bottom-left corner, open All settings, then choose “Sign out of all sessions” and confirm.

After that, log back in with your email address. Perplexity sends a unique six-digit code by email, or you can use the “Sign in” button in the email to access your account directly.
